The ever-fabulous Mary S. Chapman (82) departed this boring world in the early morning hours of September 22, 2021 surrounded by her daughter, her most special niece (more like her sister) and her daughter-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents; thirteen siblings; husband, Charles F. Chapman; long-time companion, Thomas “Smiley” Robertson and son, Jack E. Chapman. Surviving immediate family includes Bonita Chapman (daughter), John Chapman (son), Greg Chapman (son), their spouses, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one soon-to-be-arriving great grandchild.
Mary was a multi-faceted woman. She enjoyed many cultural experiences during her travels as a military spouse; was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend; loved nothing more than rowdy family get-togethers; could out debate anyone in current event discussions; was masterful at jigsaw puzzle assembly; was an avid bird watcher (with a special fondness for hummingbirds); had the most awesome sense of humor that would catch you by surprise; was a wicked prankster who was thrilled to pull "a good one" on you; could be as stubborn as an ox; was almost always right (even when she was wrong); made the most delicious pumpkin rolls; enjoyed a good glass of wine and an occasional beer; lived her life to the very fullest; was loved, respected, frequently annoyed with and sometimes even feared by many; did things how and when she wanted and ALWAYS DID THEM "HER WAY".
A Celebration of Her Life will be held at a later date. Her family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations in her honor be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or your local Humane Society.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.elmwoodfhcolumbia.com for the Chapman family.
