

Columbia: A graveside service for Mattie Rabon Brady, 94, of Columbia, will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Ave, Columbia, 9:30 AM, Thursday, July 14, 2011, with The Rev. Stephen D. Vassar officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 o’clock, Wednesday afternoon, at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia. Memorials may be made to Bayview Baptist Church, or to the charity of one’s choice.
Mrs. Brady died Monday, July 11, 2011. Born in Columbia on November 27, 1916, she was a daughter of the late William Daniel and Eula E. Hawkins Rabon. A longtime member of Bayview Baptist Church, Mattie served as their organist and pianist for over 65 years. She also worked for many years at Tapps Department store on Main Street.
Survivors include her daughter, Odetta “Sandra” Brady Hall and husband, Jimmy, of Gulfport, MS; grandchildren, James Hall, Wendy Hall, Andrea Kay, Michael and Matthew Rook; 12 great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and Mattie’s special caregiver, Jeannette Arrington of Columbia. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brady was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Brady; daughter, Yvonne Brady Rook; and granddaughter, Shawndra Hewitt.
