Minnie Ellen Von Nessen, 94, of Columbia, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Magnolia Manor Skilled Nursing Center on Saint Simons Island, Georgia. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, May 21, 2011, at 2 o’clock, in the Smith Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 1422 Washington St., Columbia, South Carolina, 29201. Mrs. Von Nessen was born on April 19, 1917, in San Antonio, TX. She was a daughter of the late George Bealle Vernor and Mary Blanch Russell Vernor.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Rev. Harold Von Nessen; daughter, Peggy Ginn (Gene) of Saint Simons Island, Georgia; sons, Hal Von Nessen (Susan) of Columbia, S.C., and Paul Von Nessen (Pauline) of Brisbane, Australia; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
