Nancy Grice Beaty

Nancy Grice Beaty, 75, widow of Paul W. Beaty, Sr., passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Irmo, SC, surrounded by family members on Sunday, May 13, 2012, after a lengthy battle with gastric cancer. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 o’clock, Wednesday, May 16th, at the Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Dr., Columbia. The funeral service will follow at 6 o’clock, with The Rev. L. Craig Wilkes officiating. Burial will be held 11 o’clock, Thursday, May 17th, at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery.

Nancy Grice Beaty, born in Denmark, SC, was the daughter of the late Heyward Simkins Grice and Sadie Jordan Grice. After her parents moved to Columbia, SC in 1942, she attended City of Columbia Schools, and completed her education at Eau Claire High School and Columbia College. Her entire life was truly dedicated and focused on serving as a most outstanding wife to Paul W. Beaty, Sr., for 53 years, as well as a loving mother and grandmother to her six children, fifteen grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Before and after raising her family, Nancy worked in various administrative positions at several locations in Columbia, including Southern Bell Telephone, Century 21 Paul Beaty Realty, and the Richland County Public Library.

Surviving family are her three daughters, Dawne Bodenhamer (Kerry), of Laurinburg, NC, Yvonne Young (Frank), of Aiken, SC, Anna Baughman (Matt) of Irmo, SC; three sons, Paul Beaty, Jr. (Shirley) of Snellville, GA, Kenneth Beaty (Beth) of Clover, SC, and Charles Beaty (Eva) of Lexington, SC. She is also survived by two brothers, LTC Robert H. Grice (Delores) of Fair Oaks, CA, and Joel C. Grice of Columbia; in addition to her fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, Nancy requested that memorial contribution be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105, or Oliver Gospel Mission, P.O. Box 7791, Columbia, SC 29202.
