
Roy A. Little, Jr., 84, died Tuesday, September 13, 2011. Born in Columbia, SC, on March 8, 1927, he was the son of the late Roy A. Little, Sr. and Edyce Dyches Little. Roy was a veteran of the US Army having served in Germany following World War II. After completing his tour of duty, Roy graduated from USC and worked for many years as a real estate appraiser in Columbia. Roy was a life-long member of First Presbyterian Church where he was a member of the Men’s Bible Class, served as an Elder and Clerk of the Session, and took part in several mission trips to Haiti. He was also an active Boy Scout leader.
Roy is survived by his children and their spouses, Marie Hart Little Langley (Hank), Roy A. Little, III (Andrea), and Edward P. “Ned” Little (Ashley); as well as seven grandchildren, Anne Marie Langley, Allie Little Langley, Janet Elizabeth Langley, Peyton McFall Little, Anne Hackett Hart Little, Charlotte Elizabeth Little, and Caroline Everette Little. Roy was preceded in death by Anne Hart Little, his wife of 41 years. In 2000, he married Marty W. Little, who survives him, as well as her daughter, Laura Foster (Michael); her sons, Michael Watring and David Watring (Dianne); and eight grandchildren, Lee Ann, Cam, Frances and Mary Grace Foster, Andrew, Emily, Erin and August Watring.
Mr. Little’s service will be held 11:00 o’clock, Friday, September 16, 2011, at The First Presbyterian Church of Columbia, with The Rev. L. Craig Wilkes and The Rev. David H. Lauten officiating. The family will greet friends in Jackson Hall following the service. A family graveside service will take place at 10:30 o’clock in the Churchyard. Members of the Men’s Bible Class are invited to serve as honorary pallbearers. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Carolina Children’s Home, PO Box 4465, Columbia, SC 29240, First Presbyterian Church, 1324 Marion Street, Columbia, SC 29201, or to the charity of one’s choice. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.
