
COLUMBIA – Mr. Thomas “Harley” Rhoden, 82, of Columbia, SC passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the C. M. Tucker Center, following an extended illness. Funeral services for Mr. Rhoden will be held on Friday, July 6, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel with interment to follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 5, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Mr. Rhoden was one of three sons and three daughters of the late Reverend Schiley and Julia Alberta Dukes Rhoden. Mr. Rhoden proudly served in the U.S. Army to include two tours during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of three Bronze Stars. Mr. Rhoden retired after twenty years on July 1, 1971. Mr. Rhoden also retired from Westinghouse Nuclear Fuel Plant in Columbia. Mr. Rhoden truly enjoyed fishing, hunting and tinkering in his shop.
Mr. Rhoden is survived by his daughter, Susanne L. Bender (Curt) of Pooler, GA; son, Peter C. Rhoden (Naomi) of Chapin, SC; sisters, Juanita Scott (Lamar) of Starke, FL and Virginia Hamilton of Starke, FL; grandson, Christopher L. Rhoden (Candace) of Lexington, SC, Jason C. Rhoden (Brooke) of Chapin, SC; granddaughter, Susie Bender of Columbia, SC; grandson, Alex Bender of Pooler, GA; great granddaughters, Lena of Pooler, GA, Hadley of Irmo, SC; step grandchildren, Amber Stanis of Spartanburg, SC, Marshall Bradley of Lexington, SC and five step great grand children.
