Born in Sumter County in 1931, he was the son of Samuel Aaron and Sudie Wingate Mathis. He was the last born of 13 children and the last surviving member of his family. He was married to the late JoAnn Padgett Mathis. Bobie is survived by his daughter, Lesa M. Eisele (Bill) of Gilbert, SC and his two grandchildren, Hunter Eisele and Whitnie Scoggins.
Bobie grew up in Walterboro, SC and graduated from Walterboro High School where he excelled in sports. He married JoAnn in 1955. He was in the National Guard, worked at Savannah River Site, SCE&G at Canadys Station, First Federal of SC and Enterprise Bank. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Walterboro where he taught Sunday school and served for many years.
Bobie will be remembered for his devotion to his family and his kindness and generosity to all. He took great care of his mother, siblings, his wife, daughter and grandchildren. He was a hard worker, compassionate to friends and strangers, and a great dancer. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it and he spent his life helping others.
He will be missed, but what a wonderful life he lived.
Bobie will be buried in his family plot in Live Oak Cemetery in Walterboro with a private ceremony. In memorial, do something nice for someone today.
