Wendy Bush McKenzie

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wendy Bush McKenzie on January 15, 2025, at the age of 57. Wendy was born on January 6, 1968, in Bethlehem, PA to George J. and Helen Frye Bush. She grew up in Florence, SC and spent most of her adult life in Columbia, SC.

Wendy was a loving mother and grandmother and a beautiful soul who would help anyone. She was known for her kind, caring and humorous personality. She loved spending time with her family and friends and with her beloved fur baby, Lucy. Wendy had battled health issues for many years, but she always had a positive attitude and a determination to live her best life even with the health challenges she faced. She always said she had many blessings by the different people that God had placed in her life and then became like family. Wendy enjoyed going to Murrells Inlet especially with her two granddaughters Eleanor and Phoebe who were the light of her life. She was always up for going to listen to live music or going out to eat with friends. She loved crafting and was involved in several activities to pursue this hobby.

Wendy was a devout and active member of Living Springs Lutheran Church in Columbia, SC. She served in many roles at the church, but her main activity was serving in the handbell choir.

Wendy was a graduate of Francis Marion University and worked most of her career at the University of SC as a grant administrator.

Wendy is survived by her daughter, Meredith McKenzie, her grandchildren Eleanor and Phoebe Cool, brother Joshua Bush and his wife Amber Bush. Her nieces and nephews: Riley Perry, Bentley Bush, Capelynn Bush and Brittany Welch.

She is preceded in death by her parents George and Helen Bush, her sister Audrey Anne Bush, and her sister Melissa (Missy) Edward.

Services will be held at Living Springs Lutheran Church 4224 Hard Scrabble Road, Columbia, SC 29223 on January 20th at 10:00 AM. Visitation will immediately follow the service from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM. The service of committal & burial will be held at Florence Memorial Gardens 3320 S Cashua Drive, Florence, SC 29501 at 2:00PM.
