W. C. Stanley, 83, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 2, 2010. He was born in Columbia, South Carolina, on March 19, 1926 to the late Winston C. Stanley, Sr., and Adele Johnson Stanley. He married Betty Medlin on September 1, 1950.
W.C. worked in the cotton mills at Olympia when he was thirteen. He was a 9 year veteran of the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Hobson during World War II and also during the Korean War. After leaving the Navy, W.C. became a master electrician, and spent time working in New York City. Upon his return to Columbia, W.C. went to work and retired from the City of Columbia.
Throughout his life, he was an avid golfer and fisherman. He often played golf with a dedicated group of golf buddies three times a week at Hickory Ridge Golf Club. His most cherished memories were spending time with his wife, Betty, and his daughters and grandchildren. He particularly enjoyed the family trips to Lake Wylie, where he would enjoy fishing, making catfish stew, and sleeping outside on the screened porch. W.C. was a strong, Christian man. He allowed his dedication to God to dictate his path in life. He played a vital role in starting Eastwood Baptist, (now Hope) Church.
W.C. was predeceased by his parents, wife, and brothers; James Stanley, Billy Stanley and Larry Stanley.
He is survived by his daughters, Scarlett (Paul) Atkinson and Robyn (Luke) Richardson; 4 grandchildren, Jeremy Corbett (Stacey) Martin, Jason Lindsey (Brandi) Martin, Dustin Luke (Crystal) Richardson and Lauree Beth (Jamin) Ortiz; great-grandchildren, Jaxon Corbett Martin, Tucker Buice Martin, Jason Lindsey Martin, Jr., Cohen Luke Richardson and Ansley Dell Richardson; his sisters, Carolyn Stanley Campbell and Ramona Stanley Peake; a brother, Marvin Stanley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom he cherished deeply.
