(Maj Ret) Alfred Andrew Sanders, age 84, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Friday, September 25, 2020. A graveside memorial service for Alfred will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Main Post Cemetery, Custer Rd, Fort Benning, GA 31908.
Alfred was born August 11, 1936 in Rockford, Tennessee to Pearl Rose Sanders and Horace Sanders. Alfred grew up during the depression and learned very quickly the value of good work ethics. Alfred joined the Army where he displayed his talents for flying. He flew both Helicopters and fixed wing aircraft with two tours of duty in Vietnam. After retiring from the Army, he still served his country as a computer operator for Civil Service. During his off time he enjoyed woodworking in his shop, playing golf, fishing and he was an avid reader. He taught his children by example to take care of each other and have good work ethics. He loved to eat and enjoyed good food. (Maj Ret) Alfred Sanders will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a good man.
His father, Horace Sanders, and mother, Pearl Rose Sanders; and his siblings, two brothers and one sister, preceded Alfred in death. Alfred is survived by his wife, Shirley Laverne Sanders; daughter, Konnie Yoakum (Chuck); son, Russell Sanders (Leslie); and son, Joseph Sanders (Allison); grandchild, Thomas Daglis; grandchild, Austin Daglis; grandchild, Joanna Fowler; grandchild, Aaron Sanders; and grandchild; Parker Sanders; many friends and co-workers to cherish his memories.
