Alma Swift Winn died peacefully on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at her home. Alma was born in Columbus, Georgia, on December 4, 1935. She was the daughter of Edward Wellington Swift, Jr. and Vera Howard Swift. She graduated from Columbus High School, and attended Mount Vernon College.
Alma married John Harvey Winn, Jr. on February 8, 1958, and lived in Midtown Columbus for most of her life. She was a long-time member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she was active in the Altar Guild, Junior League of Columbus, Tea Olive Garden Club, and the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, Columbus Town Committee.
Alma was predeceased by her husband, sister Barbara Swift Pound, and twin sister, Vera Swift Smith T. Survivors include her sister Mary Swift Berry of Atlanta, three children, John Harvey Winn, III, Jewett Winn Rothschild (Alan) and Frances Winn Boyce (Scott); four grandchildren, Alan Friend Rothschild III (Libbie), Caroline Rothschild Egan (John) of Atlanta, William Chaffin Boyce (Margaret) of Birmingham, AL and Mary Mackie Boyce of Augusta, GA; and three great-grandchildren, Adelaide Friend Rothschild, William Henry Rothschild, and Winn Caldwell Boyce.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., The Rev. Timothy H. Graham officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alma’s memory may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 1130 First Avenue, Columbus, GA, 31901, or a favorite charity.
