Amy was born on May 17 in Columbus, Georgia, to Stephen and Linda Whitley. From an early age, she had a gentle spirit and a caring heart that would go on to define her life. She graduated from Harris County High School, Class of 1994, and later followed her calling into nursing at Columbus Technical College, where she earned her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
For many years, Amy devoted herself to caring for others, offering comfort, kindness, and compassion to every patient she touched. Nursing was more than a profession to her—it was a reflection of who she was. She had a rare ability to make people feel safe, seen, and cared for, even in their hardest moments. Outside of her work, Amy found joy in the simple things—time with her family, quiet moments at home, and the unconditional love of animals, who always seemed to sense her gentle soul.
Above all else, Amy’s greatest love was her family. She was a devoted wife to David Carlson and a proud, loving mother to her daughter, Savannah, who was the light of her life. Amy’s love was steady, selfless, and unwavering—a constant source of comfort and strength to those who knew her best.
She is lovingly survived by her husband, David Carlson, and their daughter, Savannah Carlson; her parents, Steve and Linda Whitley; her brother, Michael Whitley; and several extended family members and dear friends who will carry her memory in their hearts forever. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Pippa, a faithful companion who brought her endless comfort and joy.
Though Amy’s time here was far too short, the love she gave and the lives she touched will never fade. She will be remembered for her kind heart, her quiet strength, her gentle laughter, and the way she cared so deeply for others without ever asking for anything in return.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. In honor of Amy’s love for animals, the family asks that donations be made to the Columbus Humane Society.
Amy will be profoundly missed, but forever cherished in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
