Ann Cheshire Baker, 84, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 31, 1941, to Frances and Ulmon Cheshire in Columbus, Georgia.
Ann was an alumnus of Jordan Vocational High School and has been remembered for the “Jordan 59ers” where she coordinated reunions for 60 years, etc. “Go Red Jackets!” Ann was married to the late Jesse E. Baker, Jr.. Together Ann and Jesse ran one of the oldest family-owned hardware stores (Baker's Hardware) in Columbus. She was the matriarch and rock of her family, it was her love for everyone under her care that was her life, her joy, her everything.
Ann’s greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren, until she was blessed with her great grandchildren who called her “Honey”. She enjoyed spending time with her family, watching and supporting the Georgia Bulldogs “Go DAWGS!”
She leaves her loving memory to be cherished by her two daughters: Shasmein (Baker) Sanders and Shannon Baker; two grandchildren: Branndy Moore and Shane Sanders (Katy); two great granddaughters: Taylor L. Taylor (Josh) and Jessy Moore; and one great grandson, Greyson Sanders. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse E. Baker, Jr..
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907. A Celebration of Ann’s Life will be held in Fisher Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary on Monday, November 17th at 2:00 PM with Pastor Bob Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery.
