Barbara Hughes Morris, 82, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away peacefully at Piedmont Hospital surrounded by family. She was born in Georgia to the late Robert and Doris Griner on February 27, 1943. Barbara attended Anchorage High School in Anchorage, Alaska. She was a homemaker for many years before going to work as a cashier at Lewis Jones and Piggly Wiggly, she later retired from the Muscogee County School District. As a woman of faith, she was a long-time member of Calvary Freewill Baptist Church. Barbara married her first husband Jack Hughes and they shared a beautiful 33 years together before his passing.
Barbara was a very social and caring woman; she loved spending time with her family, going to the beach, and shopping. She had many friends that she loved going on trips with, they had lunch together and would chat about everything and anything.
In addition to her parents and brother, Robert Griner Jr., Barbara is preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children Jack Hughes, a step-granddaughter, a great-granddaughter, and her second husband Billy Morris.
She is survived by her daughters and a son-in-law Angie and Wayne Curley and Tracy Sundie; her son Matthew Hughes, stepsons Jeff Hughes, Alan Hughes, and Mark Hughes, and stepdaughter Tina Ballard. She had lots of grandchildren and great-grandchildren that she loved and adored very much. She has family members in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Texas, and Virginia, she loved all of them very much but as the years went by, she was unable to travel much and visit. However, she always made sure to keep in touch by phone.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at 4:00PM, Sunday, May 4, 2025 and funeral services will follow right after at 5:00 PM with Reverend Russell Horne officiating. These services will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, Georgia, 31907.
