Funeral services will be held Saturday August 6, 2022 at 3:00 PM in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, Georgia with military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Wingate was born March 20, 1952 in New Bern, North Carolina the son of Mildred Rubelle Nobles and David Verral Wingate. He retired from the United States Army as a Staff Sargent after faithfully serving his country for over 20 years. After his service for his country he worked at several careers with his longest being at the Kellogg’s Company. Mr. Wingate, affectionately known as “Uncle Bennie”, had a wide range of hobbies to include woodworking, gardening, cars, painting and traveling. He was a member the Fellowship Baptist Church in Smiths Station, AL. Uncle Bennie will be greatly missed by all who knew and especially loved him.
Uncle Bennie was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Wingate, and his parents. He is survived by his son, Matthew Wingate (Derek Moore); a sister, Millie Hamilton (Michael); nephews and their children, Richard Anthony (Claire), Luke Anthony (Rhonda Pryor), and Michael Clark (Diamond); a very close friend, Marlene Faircloth; and numerous great nieces, great nephews and Wingate, Clark, Anthony, and Hamilton family members.
