The family will receive friends Saturday, February 25, 2023 2:00 pm at Striffler-Hamby in Columbus, Georgia followed by the Funeral Service at 3:00 pm in the Edgewood Hall, burial to follow in Parkhill Cemetery.
She was born in Savannah, Georgia, but grew up and lived in Columbus, Georgia until she married Henry (Sonny) Cook Jr. and moved to Cincinnati. After a few years, they moved to Florida where she spent most of her life. She had a recent stay in Massachusetts to be near her daughter, Cathi and granddaughter, Lisa. After the passing of Sonny Cook, she married Harry Mavrelis and enjoyed her retirement for 20 years with him until he passed two years ago. Mom has recently said that she had a good life. She said, she always had what she needed, God always came through to help her and she was amazingly healthy her entire life.
She graduated from Central High School in 1952, She attended Girard Baptist Church in Phenix City where she married Sonny Cook. In Florida, she worked as an administrative assistant and then a banking finance manager. She has recently been attending a non-denominational church in Florida.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon Martin Stewart and Barbara Mary Ray Stewart; her siblings Helen Price, Barbara Cummings, Vernon Stewart Jr., William Stewart, Mary Coulter and Jackie Stewart Harvey; her niece Susan Howard and husband Bev and their daughter Mary Anna Howard Walker; and her nephew Bud Price.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathi Melamed, of Andover, MA; grandson Eric Melamed of San Jose, CA; granddaughter Lisa Melamed of Cambridge, MA; many nieces and nephews including Dr. Barbara Harvey McCollum (Eric), Carolyn Howard Cornett (Sam), Sonny Coulter (Kathy), Jack Price (Sheri), Jimmy Price, Ray Stewart, Danny Stewart; loyal friends Bob Pondolfi, Peggy Gall and Mary Jane Moore.
