Charles Henry Kent Jr.

Funeral Services will be at Wynnton United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 2:00 pm with Dr. Frank Parr officiating. Family will receive friends before the service from 1:00 pm until time of the service.

Mr. Kent was born in Lumpkin, Stewart County, Georgia son of the late Charles H. Kent, Sr. and Alma Yelverton Kent. He had lived in Columbus since 1952 and was a member of Wynnton United Methodist Church.

He was a veteran of World War II where he served honorably in the Army Air Corp. In 1943 his crew was transferred to England and was a part of the 447th Bombardment Group of the Eighth Air Force. As a crew member on a B-17 Bomber, Mr. Kent completed 31 combat missions over the European Continent. His decorations include the Air Medal with 5 oak leaf clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

After receiving a BBA degree with a major in Accounting from the University of Georgia, Charles was employed by the state of Georgia for 12 years as an auditor for the Revenue Department. Following this he accepted a position with the First National Bank of Columbus in the Trust Department. After 25 years of service, he retired in 1986 with the title of Vice President and Trust Officer.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Arthur S. Kent, and three sisters, Laverne Kent, Anne Armstrong, and Mary Alice Peed.

Survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Miriam M. Kent and four children: Judy Davidson (Don), Jimmy Kent (Michele), Jean Price-Garland (Christy), and Janet Cavin (Mike); grandchildren: Eric Davidson, Kelly Middleton (Brian), Jimmy Kent, Jr., Ali Lindsey (Terry), Kent Garland (Wendi), Matt Garland (Lace), Cal Price, Trant Hayes, Christina Hayes, Andrew Hayes, and D.J. Hayes; eleven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
