He was born on March 22, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Clinton and Mary Jones. Clinton attended public school in Detroit and graduated from Pershing High School. He then went to work at General Motors Tech Center in Warren, Michigan and was then drafted into the Army, where he served from 1963 to 1965. He was stationed at Ft. Benning, where he met his wife, Nell, and got married in November of 1965.
After he retired from the Army, he returned back to work at General Motors and was employed there until he and Nell relocated to Columbus, Georgia in 1969 with their son, Stacy Coy. Coy loved playing golf and was a charter member at Maple Ridge, then he moved to Lakewood until he suffered a stroke in 2014. He was also a member of the Columbus Jaycees and a member of Evangel Church, where he was active in their Covenant Fellowship Sunday School class. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
Coy is preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Mary Jones; his son, Stacey; and his sister, Pat Hudson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nell Wood Jones; family members affectionately called Coy, “Paco”, they include: Scott Campbell (Jennifer), Kyle Campbell (Julie), Landon Odom (Alexa), and Kalia Moore (Daniel); special nieces and nephews, Rhonda Campbell, Donna Becchitti (Lee), Shane Wood (Misti), Sherry Wall, and Claudia Whitman (Cliff); and his special great grandchildren, Nathan Campbell, Mallory Campbell, Emily Campbell, Addison Kate, Kavery Odom, Kyson Odom, and Everly Moore.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Striffler Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia, 31907. A Visitation for Friends and Family will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Chapel at Striffler Hamby.
Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to Evangel Church’s Reach Program or to the Ladies Fellowship on Coy's behalf.
