

David Ricky Herring, 61 of Smiths Station, AL passed away at Columbus Hospice House Thursday August 7, 2014. He was born August 20, 1952 at Maxwell Air Force base near Montgomery, AL to the late Frank Herring and Lois Herring. Ricky graduated from Jordan High School where he lettered in Football, Basketball, and Baseball. After High School he attended and played baseball at Columbus College. He was a retired Columbus Firefighter and member of The Columbus Firefighters Association.
Visitation will be Monday, August 11, 2014, 6:00-8:00 pm in the St. Elmo Room of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA. A Celebration of Life Service will be Tuesday, August 12, 2014 10:00 am in Edgewood Hall of Striffler- Hamby, followed by a Committal Service at Parkhill Cemetery with Rev. Hank Reeves officiating.
Along with his father, Ricky was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Cason, and a brother, Jimmy Herring, both of Columbus, GA. He is survived by his loving wife Laurie, his mother Lois Gilchrist, sister, Jewel Randall and brother Billy Herring, two sons; Chad Herring of CA, and David Herring of MI, stepdaughter; Anita Arnold , AL, grandchildren; Renee Burford, Nathan Arnold, Chloe Arnold, and Olivia Poole, numerous nieces, nephews, and life long friend Louie Hughes, and many others.
