Dennis Hugh Mitchell, also known as the “Little Debbie Man” to many in the community, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the age of 68, doing the one thing he both loved and hated – working. His famous quote came full circle: whenever asked about retirement, his response was always the same, “when you see me laid out in the parking lot at one of these stores, you’ll say well, the Little Debbie Man finally retired.”
Born on July 12, 1956, to parents Violas and Verna Mitchell, Dennis grew up as the oldest of three children in Columbus, GA. He attended Columbus High School and graduated with the class of 1974. Dennis married the love of his life, Laura, on May 21,1977. They were happily married for 47 years and were blessed with two children, Rhys and Drew.
Dennis was a faithful member of Upatoi Community Church and the proud owner of Mitchell Distributing Company (Little Debbie). He enjoyed the outdoors, from watching the kids play soccer to being out on the lake trying to drown a cricket in his favorite honey hole. He enjoyed camping and most of all, spending time with his family.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Laura Mitchell; his two sons, Rhys (Jordan) and Drew (Alison) Mitchell; his granddaughter, Clara Mitchell; and his two sisters, Martha Mitchell and Kay Batastini.
