Donald W. Sparkman

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 27, 2010 in the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Chapel, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA with Reverend Doug Davis and Reverend Bill Mayhew officiating. Pallbearers will be Ron Lamb, Shane McClung, C.J. James, Jamie Autry, nephew, Bryndon Clarke and grandson, Ryan Cresawn. Burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the service hour at the funeral home on Saturday.

Mr. Sparkman was born June 15, 1935 in Decatur, AL son of the late Hudie M. Brown and Dorothy Norris Brown. He was a U. S. Air Force and a member of Gentian Baptist Church. Mr. Sparkman was one of only three people registered in the area to repair horse hair plaster. He was also a very successful businessman as a Drywall Finisher and Hanger.

We will miss him, but because he always put his family first, his memory will not be forgotten. He was a great husband, dad, brother and friend.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Sherolyn Lanier Sparkman of Midland, GA; three children, Melissa Perry (Shane), Michael Pannell all of Valley, AL and Eddie Padgett (Gracie) of Eufaula, AL; two sisters, Linda Sparkman of Mobile, AL and Karen Clarke (Barrie) of Midland and their family, Bryndon, Kaitlyn and Sarah; one brother, David F. Brown of Midland, GA; nine grandchildren, Blake E. Padgett and Christopher L. Padgett both of Temple, GA, Ryan Cresawn and Charlie Cresawn both of Valley, AL, Bryce Pannell of Columbus, GA, Chance Padgett and Chase Padgett both of Eufaula, AL, MaKall Perry and Mitchell Perry both of Valley, AL; aunt and uncle, Loyd and Louise Norris of Decatur, AL;; two first cousins, Phyllis Grover (Glen) and their family of Madison, AL, Winfred (Jean) Speakman of Peachtree City, GA, Warner Speakman (Linda) and their family of Memphis, TN; mother-in-law, Evelyn Gruttner of Columbus, GA; brother-in-law, Ripp Gruttner of Columbus, GA; several friends.

Flowers will be accepted; however the family requests that a donation also be made in his memory to VistaCare Hospice at 100 Brookstone Centre Parkway, Columbus, GA 31904.
