A service to celebrate Dora’s life will be held in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Brett Maddox officiating. A private burial will be held at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 3, 2021 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the funeral home. In keeping with the efforts to control the spread of COVID-19, social distancing guidelines will be followed, Face mask will be required.
Dora was born on July 6, 1936 in Bayreuth, Germany to the late Anton Max Berneth and Johanna Babette Neukam Berneth. She met her late husband, SSG (Ret.) Elwood B. Neal, while he was stationed in Germany, and after their marriage she and her husband moved back to the United States. Dora was proud of her German heritage, and even more elated when she became an American Citizen. Together with her late husband, “Opa”, they made a home and raised their children in Columbus, GA. They later moved to Phenix City, Alabama and enjoyed retirement. Dora was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved her family dearly.
Dora is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, and her husband SSG (Ret.) Elwood B. Neal. She leaves her legacy to be cherished by her children: Doris Outlaw and her husband, Charles, Fred Neal, Barbara Clements and her husband, Hugh, James Neal and his wife, Jennifer, Pauline Crowe and her husband, Tommy and George Neal (Vicki Goggins); her grandchildren, Stephen Clements, Mandy Price, Brandy Willoughby, Brandon Neal, Angela Crowe, Garrett Outlaw, Tammie Coonley, Andrew Neal and Jamie Neal; her great grandchildren: Zac, Zoe, Lauren, Abby, LeiAnna, Preston, James, Violet, Ronnie, Katelyn, Annaclaire, and Frank; one sister; numerous other family members and friends.
