Dorothy “Dot” Catherine Revis, age 82, of Columbus, Georgia passed away into God's glory on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. A visitation for the friends and family of Dot will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia; a Celebration of Dot's life will follow on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary.
Dorothy was born on July 2, 1942 in Swainsboro, Georgia, to the late Troy Leslie Canady and Alma Lee Barrs Canady. She graduated from Swainsboro High School and continued her education at Georgia College in Milledgeville where she received her Bachelor's in Science and later attained her Masters of Education from West Georgia College. While in college, she was active in the Phi Beta Lamba, were she held the title of Vice-President. Growing up, Dot was also in Girl Scouts and a member of the Acapella choir. Dot married William Christopher "Chris" Revis in her hometown of Swainsboro on August 3, 1969. They had one child together and were married for 29 years, until his passing in 1999.
Dot was renowned for her love of Christ, her family and her friends. She was described as a sweet and compassionate woman, who loved to laugh and smile. She was a friend to anyone in need and would go out of her way to help others. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing, doing word searches, arts and crafts, playing board games, and also watching games shows, Hallmark and Lifetime movies on TV. She also loved to travel with family and friends.
With her love of helping others, Dot chose a career in teaching. She was a devoted teacher for the Cobb County School District where she taught at Osborne High School in Marietta, GA for 37 years. She taught there from the 1960’s until she retired in 2001. She was also a longtime member of Green Acres Baptist Church in Smyrna, GA, where she played the piano/organ for Sunday services, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School classes, and helped with VBS. Dot was an avid Christian who loved church and served her community with kindness and compassion. She moved down to Columbus, GA about four years ago, where she was a resident at the Oaks at Grove Park and just recently at Orchard View Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center.
Survivors include her daughter Shannan Angel (Fernando), her grandchildren Kelli Angel, Emily Angel, and Ethan Angel. Siblings include her brother Troy Canady Jr (Sandra) and sister Regina Buice. Also a few nieces and nephews; Matt Robbins, Tina Spencer, Ron Buice, Robyn Shoaf, and Scott Canady.
