

SSG (Ret) Ed Mullins, age 64, resident of Columbus, died on Friday, April 8, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital. Graveside services are scheduled at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, 3 p.m., according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, April 11, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. Mr. Mullins, son of the late RG Mullins and Beulah Mae Guffey Mullins, was born July 19, 1946 in Athens, TN. He was retired from the U.S. Army, serving his country honorably for 20 years. During his military career, he served in the Vietnam Era Conflict and was awarded the Bronze Star for his exemplary service. After retirement from the military, he began a new career in the insurance industry, and worked faithfully for several years for Life of Virginia. Mr. Mullins was preceded in death by three brothers, Cary Mullins, Gary Mullins, and Gene Mullins. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Marianne Mullins of Columbus; three devoted daughters, Susan Liebl and her husband LTC (Ret) Richard Liebl of Herndon, VA, Michele Mullins of Cataula, GA, and Janette Mullins of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Opal Sanders of Athens, TN and Barbara Sloan of Etowah, TN; three brothers, Bob Mullins and his wife Alicia Mullins, Ronnie Mullins and his wife Louise Mullins of Athens, TN, and Chuck Mullins and his wife Evelyn Mullins of Madisonville, TN; four grandchildren, Jennifer Mullins, Matthew Liebl, Evan Liebl, and Nicholas Liebl; one great-granddaughter, Mikayla Gilbert; other relatives and friends. Mr. Mullins was an avid fisherman and participated in Bass Pro Classic events. He was an honorable man that people were proud to call a friend. Condolences may be offered at www.shcolumbus.com
