

Graveside services with military honors will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday October 8, 2011 in Parkhill Cemetery according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907.
CSM Hamill was born at Fort Banks, MA on January 5, 1928. He was the oldest son of the late George and Abbie Hamill and the widower of Jean C. Hamill who passed away on February 11, 1992. He was raised in Newport, RI and attended schools there. He enlisted in the US Army on July 3, 1946 at Fort Banks, MA and retired on August 1, 1976 at Fort Carson, CO completing over 30 years of service. During his long military career he served on the Army’s Leadership Board in 1971 and was the Division Command Sergeant Major for the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea in 1973-1974.
His decorations include the Legion of Merit w/1 OLC, Bronze Star Medal for Valor, Purple Heart w/1 OLC, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/4 OLC, Eight Awards of the Good Conduct Medal and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge with 1 star and numerous campaign awards. He served in Korea Germany and Vietnam.
He was a member of the Association of the US Army, life member of the 1st Calvary Division Association, life member of the Disabled American Vets, life member of the American Legion Post 35, Muscogee Alliance Literacy Association and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Hamill of Columbus, step-son, Beldy Massey, step-daughter, Linda Johnson, his sisters, Barbara Platt, Eleanor Marshall of Newport, RI, Juanita Rae Branham of Ladson, SC, Helen Hospador of Forest Park, IL , numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
