A time to honor and remember Glynn will be 11:00 am Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at the First Baptist Church of Columbus with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA with a private family interment. A visitation for family and friends will take place at the church one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Columbus, P.O. Box 828 Columbus, Ga 31902.
Glynn was born on June 9, 1934 in Atlanta, GA. to the late Ernest A. and Annie Pearce Wood. Her journey was one of love, service and unwavering faith. Glynn started her career at the age of 18 with Civil Service from 1952-1959, a stay at home mom from 1959 until 1974 while living in Macon, Augusta and then settling in Columbus. From 1974 until 2005, she served as the Secretary of Chief of Staff at Ft. Benning. Finally, from 2005 until present her commitment to her faith was evident by her membership and her willingness to serve as Secretary of the First Baptist Church of Columbus. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and especially loved her.
Glynn is survived by her three children, Nelson Tomblin Columbus, GA, Susan (Bruce) Walker Fortson, GA, and Alan (Mary) Tomblin Lake Oconee, GA; grandchildren: Beth (Tony) Lehman Atlanta, GA, Chris (Angie) Walker Cataula, GA, Matt (Melissa) Walker Austin, TX, Katelyn Ann “Kitty” Tomblin North Hollywood, CA and Alex (Sydney) Tomblin Loveland, OH; great grandchildren: Hayden Walker, Tyler Walker, Peyton Walker and Austin Walker. Glynn was preceded in death by her husband, Collis Nelson Tomblin, Sr. MD an Obstetrician in Columbus who passed away May 13, 1973 and a sister, Jean Wood.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregiver, Sharon Martin who took such loving care of Glynn.
