Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2022 in Parkhill Cemetery according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA. with Reverend Mark Sasser officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday afternoon from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Grady was born on April 6, 1933 in Talbotton, GA. to the late J. Roy Burt and Celester Hand Burt. He was a resident of Midland, Georgia and the owner and operator of the family business, Burt’s Fertilizer and Lime Company. Grady was a member of Upatoi United Methodist Church, the Phenix City Shriners Club, Midland Mason Lodge and a member of the V.F.W. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. Grady was preceded in death by four brothers, Leon Burt, Henry Burt, Aubry Burt and Cecil Burt.
Grady took great pride in his family and was married to his wonderful wife for 69 years. They met when they were in the third grade and married eleven years later in 1953. Grady enjoyed collecting and restoring antique cars, raising cattle, taste testing ice cream and his favorite hobby was making his wife smile.
He is survived by his wife, Glorene Burt of Midland, and his three children, daughter, Sheila Goforth, sons, Mark Burt (Barbara), and Dwight Burt (Jennifer) all of Midland, GA. a brother, Fred Burt of Junction City, two sisters, Lucile Gray and Linda Zingarelli both of Atlanta, GA. five grandchildren, Jayson Cullifer (Amber), Justin Cullifer, Randall Minter, Kendall Burt, and Grady Burt and five great grandchildren, Sawyer Williams, Khloie Cullifer, Saylor Cullifer, Nevaeh Greene and Louis Valentin.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
