

Grady “Ross” McCain, 73, of Richland, GA passed away Tuesday, March 21, surrounded by his loving family. The family will welcome guests for visitation Saturday, March 25 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA. A Celebration of Major McCain’s Life will follow at 3:00 pm in Edgewood Hall. Interment will be at Parkhill Cemetery with Mike McGlaun officiating.
Mr. McCain was born June 2, 1943 in Columbus, GA, to the late Woodrow and Katherine Etheridge McCain. He was a 1962 graduate of Jordan Vocational High School before serving honorably in the US Army. After serving in the Army, Ross joined the Columbus Police Department where he received his Bachelors Degree from Columbus College and earned a Masters Degree from Georgia State College. Major McCain spent many years on the CPD Motor Squad and was instrumental in planning and development of the new Public Safety Center at 510 10th Ave. He loved to hunt, and ride motor cycles; however, his passion was his family. As devoted grandfather, he loved to take care of his grandchildren.
Along with his parents, Ross is preceded in death by: his adoring wife, of 49 years, Linda Gayle McCain; his daughter Juanita Hart; his brothers Donald McCain and Roger Neal McCain, and his sister in-law Gloria Rolison. Those left to cherish his memory are: his daughter Candace (Nick) Collins of Richland, GA; son Jay (Jill) McCain of Richland, GA; sister Kay (Grant) Bowden; brothers Jack (Penny) McCain and Steve (Jane) McCain; in-laws, Deborah (Rick) Newman and Elsie (WC) Hall; grandchildren, Taylor Bishop, Savannah ( Zack) Enfinger, Amanda Hendricks, Hannah McCain, Hunter McCain, Jean Roman, and Holly McCain; nieces, nephews, other family members and many, many friends.
