Hariot Rogers Lippmann, 96, passed away peacefully in her home in Columbus, Georgia, on the morning of January 30th, 2025. She was born on April 5th, 1928, in Cartersville, Georgia, to the late John Charles and Mary Duggan Rogers. She was the cherished younger sister of Martha Mitchell Rogers. The Rogers family moved to Fort Valley, Georgia, from Cartersville before settling in Macon, GA, when Hariot was in second grade.
Hariot’s early years were shaped by the city of Macon, Georgia, where she attended John Clisby Elementary School and graduated from Miller High School for Girls. She went on to earn her degree in Chemistry from Mercer University, where she was an active and dedicated member of Phi Mu Sorority.
It was at Mercer that Hariot met the love of her life, Paul Eugene(Gene) Lippmann. The two married on April 16, 1950, and soon moved to Columbus, Georgia, where they would share a life rich in love, faith, and service.
Throughout her life, Hariot was first and foremost devoted to her family. As a loving wife to Paul for 62 years and a dedicated mother to Susan Rogers Lippmann and Sara Ann Lippmann Jones, she embraced each role with warmth and joy. She also found great pride in being “Mimi” and “Grand-Mimi” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable happiness into her life. Her love
for them was boundless, and her presence was a gift to all who knew her.
For nearly 75 years, Hariot was an active and devoted member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she served in various capacities, including on the Vestry and the Altar Guild. Her faith was the bedrock of her life, guiding her in her many acts of service and kindness. As an Elementary School Librarian in the Muscogee County School District, she touched countless young lives with her passion for literacy, fostering a love of books and learning that she would pass on to her grandchildren in her later years.
Hariot’s retirement was filled with purpose. She spent nearly three decades volunteering at the Columbus Museum, and she was a proud member of the Golden Girls Investment Club, Daughters of the King, The Students Club, and the Trinity Altar Guild. She was also an avid bridge player, enjoying many years of friendly competition. Through all of these endeavors, she built lasting relationships and touched the lives of many in her community.
Hariot was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul; her parents, Mary Duggan and John Charles Rogers; her sister, Martha Mitchell Rogers; her granddaughter, Anna Mitchell (Mitchi) McKnight Wade; her great-granddaughter, Virginia (Ginny) Fitzgerald Wade; and her dear cousin, Dr. Spencer Fleetwood Maddox, Jr.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Lippmann Batastini of Columbus, Georgia, and Sara (Sally) Lippmann Jones (Robert W. Jr.) of Thomson, Georgia; her grandchildren: Thomas Fredrick (Mac) McKnight, Jr. (Ansley) of Columbus, Georgia; Laura Duggan Jones Elsarelli (Rich) of Gainesville, Georgia; Margaret (Meg) Anne Jones Begnaud (Will) of Cumming, Georgia; Hariot Kathleen (Katie) Jones Drake (Colby) of Bishop, Georgia; Dr. Robert Winton (Tripp) Jones, III (Amy Beth) of Goose Creek, South Carolina; and Travis Fitzgerald Wade of Columbus, Georgia. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Ruth (Ruthie) McKnight Wade and Martha Mitchell Wade of Columbus, Georgia; Paul Thomas McKnight, James Thomas McKnight, and Benjamin (Ben) Edward McKnight of Columbus, Georgia; Rhys Paul Whitlock, Hunter James Elsarelli, Caroline Ada Elsarelli, and Luca Samuel Elsarelli of Gainesville, Georgia; Amelia Anne Begnaud of Cumming, Georgia; Henry Adam Drake and Molly MacGlashan Drake of Bishop, Georgia; and many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to those who provided care and support to Hariot in her final years: Barbara Lee of Columbus, Georgia, a close friend and assistant; the team at Columbus Hospice; and the women of CAREvity of Columbus whose kindness and dedication were a great comfort in her final weeks.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 11:00 am at Trinity Episcopal Church. There will be a private interment in the Trinity Columbarium. The family will welcome visitors on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Lippmann home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Columbus Hospice, Trinity Episcopal Church Scholarship Music Fund, or The Wynn House. Hariot’s life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and community. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
