

Harold Layfield, age 90, resident of Midland, Georgia, died on Friday, September 25, 2015 at Morningside Assisted Living, Columbus. Funeral services are scheduled at Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, 11 a.m. with Reverend Thad Smith and Reverend Donald King officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Mr. Layfield, son of the late John Bedford Layfield and Rena O’Nell Psalmond Layfield, was born July 25, 1925 in Midland, Georgia. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and was retired as a Line Supervisor of Georgia Power, where he worked faithfully for over 40 years. Mr. Layfield was a member of the Georgia Power Ambassadors, Muscogee Masonic Lodge #727, and enjoyed gardening and farming.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rhudine Layfield; and a brother, J.B. Layfield. Mr. Layfield is survived by a daughter, Julie Lewis and her husband Mark of LaGrange, Georgia; a son, James Harold Layfield, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Derek Lewis and his wife Lisa, Michael Lewis and his wife Angie, Ryan Layfield, and Dylan Layfield and his wife Tara; three great-grandchildren, Annabelle and Molly Lewis and Reese Lewis; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to extend a personal thank you to Morningside Assisted Living for their excellent care and love.
