Harry Kinney, 86, of Columbus, died Saturday, October 23, 2010 in Columbus.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 27, at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel with Dr. Hal Brady and Reverend Helen Berenthien officiating, with a private family burial to follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Tuesday evening from 5:00-7:00 PM. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class at St. Luke United Methodist Church.
Mr. Kinney was born March 1, 1924, in Columbus, Georgia, son of the late Mamie Adelaide Waters Kinney Davis and Harry Moran Kinney, Sr. Mr. Kinney was a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the United States Air Force and a World War II veteran of the 450th Group Bombardment Group (H), 15th Army Air Force, also known as “The Cottontails”. A graduate of Jordan High School and Auburn University, he founded and owned several successful companies in Columbus. He was an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, the Rotary Club and the Kiwanis Club.
His wife, Clara Susan McVey Kinney, precedes Mr. Kinney in death. His daughter, Harriet Elizabeth Kinney and extended family survive him.
