Helen White McCarley, 95, passed away in her sleep at The Green House of Calvary, on Wednesday, September 5, 2018. Helen was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Arch Clifton White and Elizabeth Winifred (Adams) White on October 10, 1922.
Following a private committal service and interment, Monday, September 10, 2018 the family will welcome guests for an 11:00 AM memorial service then visitation, at First Baptist Church, 212 12th Street, Columbus, GA. Reverend Doctor Jimmy Elder will officiate.
Mrs. McCarley was predeceased by her husband Price Yates McCarley and her daughter, Susan Jo McCarley. She is survived by: daughter, Gayle (Henry) Douglas of Columbus; son, Thomas McCarley of Portland, Oregon; five grandchildren, Trey (Kim) Douglas, Amy Monaco and Amanda (Scott) Chapman of Columbus, Page (Patrick) Donnelly and Diana McCarley of San Francisco and nine beloved great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.
She was associated with the moving and storage and furniture sales businesses her whole life. Her father opened A.C. White Moving & Storage in 1926. It has become one of the largest United Van Lines agents in the Southeast. In the 1940's her father sold one of his satellite moving and storage and furniture companies to Mr. Joseph Cooper McCarley. It was through that business transaction that she met her future husband, Price Yates McCarley. After their marriage in 1943 she moved to Columbus from Atlanta to await his return from World War Two. He became President of McCarley Moving and Storage Company, a Columbus business for over 75 years. Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church. Her interests were gardening, flower arranging, travel and reading.
