Columbus, Georgia- Dr. Jack Palmer Buchanan, Jr. 66 of Columbus died Monday ,July 21, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services will be
11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Wynnton United Methodist Church with Dr. Frank Parr and Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation at 10:00 a.m. at the church. A private burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery according to Striffler-Hamby, Columbus.
Active pallbearers will be: Burch Cameron, Cephas Thomason, Russ Wall, Ranny Carmack and Joseph Mitchell. Dr. Buchanan was born
in Columbus March 3, 1948 the son of the late Jack Palmer and Anne Munn Buchanan Sr. He had been a lifelong resident of Columbus graduating from Columbus High School in 1966, he received is undergraduate education from Columbus College and Emory University then graduating in 1976 from the Medical College of Georgia with his DMD degree beginning his dental practice in Columbus shortly thereafter and
practiced until present time.The committee on Honorable Fellowship of the Georgia Dental Association elected Dr. Buchanan to honorable fellowship on August 8, 1988. He was also a member of the Georgia Dental Association and the First Baptist Church of Columbus. Dr. Buchanan was an accomplished organist having played the organ for Pierce Chapel United Methodist Church, The First Baptist Church of Columbus, Trinity Episcopal Church and currently was the church organist for Wynnton United Methodist Church. Survivors include his loving wife, Marjorie
McCosh Buchanan of Columbus; two sons, Bart Weathers Buchanan and William Todd Buchanan both of Columbus; a sister, Leslie Buchanan
Mitchell and her husband Joseph of Haymarket, VA.; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, those so desiring may contribute
