She was born on March 17th, 1940, in Columbia, TN, to Carrie Louise Young and John Garner Young.
She attended nursing school at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, becoming a Registered Nurse in 1960. She spent most of her career at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky. In the ER, ICU and Kidney Dialysis department. She then retired with serving as an RN for over 40 years.
Jackie was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved to spend time with her family, cooking for others, and going to church every Sunday morning and Wednesday night. In her spare time, you could find her watching her favorite TV shows, reading a book, and loving on every animal she saw. She never met a stranger and loved getting to know the people she met.
She is survived by her sons, Scott Pierce of Louisville, KY and Jon (Rhonda) Pierce of Columbus, GA. 3 wonderful grandchildren, who she loved with all her heart — Riley Pierce of Rochester, NY, Lauren (Hunter) Woodall of Phenix City, AL, and Allison (Ryals) Norman of Ooltewah, TN.
There was never a time nor place she didn’t make sure they knew how loved they were. Being “Onnie” was one of her favorite titles. She was and is an amazing person who will be missed by all who knew her because she loved us all unconditionally. We’ll be holding her in our hearts until she greets us at the pearly gates of Heaven.
The family will have a private memorial at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in our mother’s name for your local Animal Rescue or Humane Society. Mom was always supporting Animal Rescue and this would be a great way to remember her.
