

Jim had an associate's degree and took great pride in his 32 years as a Forge press Operator for Pratt and Whitney. His career was marked by dedication and a strong sense of accomplishment.
A veteran of the US Army, Jim served in Vietnam as a Specialist 5 (Sp5). He was awarded the national defense medal and the army commendation medal, reflecting his commitment and service to his country.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 44 years, Mary E. Bentley, his parents Annie E. Blackwell and Doyle Blackwell, his brother Billy Blackwell, and sister Myrann Ezell. He is survived by his son, Bo Bentley and wife Irene; sister, Mary Johnson and husband Dale; brother, Don Blackwell; grandsons, Nicholas Bentley and wife Darby, Devin Stewart; granddaughter, Leeann Rehberg; nieces, Mary Gonzalez and husband Jon, Michelle Woodrow and husband Gary, Misty Johnston, and Kadie Smith and husband Jesse; great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Macie Burkett; and great niece and nephew, Mariah and Anthony Gonzalez, best friend and cruising buddy, Randy Idland.
Jim was a devoted Georgia Bulldog fan who loved fishing, hunting, playing pool, dancing, and cruising. He cherished his family and treated his friends as family, holding a deep love for God, country, his wife, son, and family.
Jim is once again united in eternal love with his wife Mary, as they were in life for 44 years. His legacy of kindness and devotion will be remembered by all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, located at 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, on January 23, 2026, at 3:00 pm.
In Jim's own words, "Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we will find it not." His life was a testament to this belief, and his memory will continue to inspire those who carry his spirit with them.
