

SSG (Ret.) James Thomas Johnson, 80, of Columbus, GA, passed away at his home under the watchful care of Gentiva Hospice. He was born June 16, 1935 in Noel, MO, to his late parents Eula Mae and James Oscar Johnson. Mr. Johnson “Pops and JJ” retired after serving over twenty years in the US Army where he was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of Living Grace United Methodist Church. Mr. Johnson loved his family, and was well known and loved by his community.
The family will greet guests for visitation Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 1:00 pm, one hour prior to the 2:00 pm Memorial Service in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA, with Reverend Roy White officiating.
Along with his parents, Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by his sister, Ada Mae Rhodes, and one son, Ronald “Ronnie” O. Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty two years, Zita Johnson; one sister, Margie Welch; one daughter, Karen Johnson (Ponce); one son, Thomas C. Johnson; four grandchildren, Ashley, Derrick, Brittany, and Meagan Johnson; three great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other family members, and many friends.
