James Michael Kirkland, age 64, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019. James was born October 23, 1854, in Bartow, Florida to Ruth Ann Croft Kirkland and James Roland Kirkland. He was a 1972 graduate of Kendrick High School and was employed by Dolly Madison Bakery and Blockbuster video. Mike loved people and loved to talk to them. He never met a stranger. Mike enjoyed traveling with his family, especially to Disney World, listening to Elvis and watching John Wayne Movies. He taught his family the importance of taking care of family and others.
Mike was preceded in death by: father, James Roland Kirkland, mother, Ruth Ann Croft Kirkland and grandson, James Trigg Heider. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Cathy Trigg Kirkland; beloved daughter, Elizabeth Cathleen Heider; son-in-law, Ryan Marx Heider; grandchildren, Griffin James Heider and Grayson Elizabeth Heider; his brother, Richard Alan Kirkland; nieces; nephews; other family members, and many friends.
A Visitation for family and friends for Mike will be held Saturday, January 19, 2019, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus GA. A Graveside Celebration of Mike’s life will occur Saturday, January 19, 2019, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at Park Hill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, GA. A burial will follow.
