The family will receive friends this evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Bill was born February 10, 1928 in Americus, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garrett and Nellie Odessa Mainor. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Joan Chadwick Mainor; son James B. Mainor and his wife, Julie Steele Mainor; daughter Mary Mainor Hall and husband, Steve Hall; grandson Chad Hall; and granddaughters Stephanie Hall and Kristen Hall; sisters Mrs. Lorene Stock and Mrs. Bonnie Hart; and many nieces and nephews. Bill joined Columbus Bank & Trust as a teller in 1948 and, except for a period of service in the US Army during the Korean conflict era, Bill worked his entire career at CB&T, Synovus and its affiliates. Bill's career and his success at CB&T is a testament to the virtues of hard work and determination, rising in the ranks from teller to Senior Vice President at TSYS over the course of 45 years. In 1973 Bill graduated from the Stonier school of Banking and shortly thereafter joined a team that developed a small spin off company called Total Systems Services into a gateway to the future in electronic banking technology - a company that continues to thrive and prosper. Bill was known for his dedication to his profession, his family and his community. He was active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce, a charter member of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Columbus and a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed playing bridge, woodworking, gardening and travel and he loved to share these activities with his beloved family. Bill had the tenacity to work hard at challenges both professional and personal, the discipline to stay the course through many decades of change and the ability to enjoy living simply and fully - taking in and sharing the excitement of life with his family, friends and community. The Mainor family would like to thank family friend, Jeannie Lias, for her dedication and loving care of Bill for many years and special thanks to the Memory Support staff at Spring Harbor for their loving kindness and care in his final years. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations may be made to the St. Luke United Methodist Church Memorial Maintenance Fund. Condolences may be offered at www.shcolumbus.com
