Jean Smith Alexander went to be with Jesus on May 31, 2018. She was born on October 7, 1924 in Columbus, Georgia. She graduated from Judson College and University of Alabama with a Master Degree in English. She was a teacher in the Muscogee County School District and worked in the Reading Center. She also added a degree to become a Psychometrist, and was the first group to work with the school board as a Psychometrist. She was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Columbus, GA. She was a member of the Joy Sunday School class and taught the Lydia Class for many years at Mt. Zion. Mama Jean was a loving and Godly woman, and shared her witty personality with everyone. Her family loved her and she will be greatly missed.
Preceded in death by her husband, Comer Jackson Alexander; mother, Marie Bertling Smith; father, Oscar Dallas Smith, Sr.; two brothers, Bert Smith and Oscar Smith; and two sisters, Louise Smith Thornton and Emma Smith Wilson. She is survived by: her four sons, Comer (Margaret Ellen), Bubba (Ginger), Clay (Amy), and Jay (Pam); 11 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. Visitation at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Columbus, Georgia, on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at 1:30 pm, and funeral services at 2:00 pm with Reverend Travis Rigsby officiating.
