Joel Edward “Boss Jock” Smith, age 71, of Columbus, died Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at Vista Care Hospice at Franciscan Woods. A graveside funeral service will be held 1:00 P.M., Saturday, Friday 19, 2011, in Parkhill Cemetery according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus. The family will have a visitation Friday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith was born January 2, 1940 in Mobile, AL the son of the late Marie Windham, and raised and loved by the late Johnnie A. and Crumpton Smith. He was a retired plumbing foreman for the Columbus Consolidated Government. He also worked for Jenkins Service Company for 3 years. He was a loving husband and wonderful father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Helen Smith, of Columbus; a son, Joel E. Smith, Jr. of Newnan, GA; a daughter, Edie Smith of Columbus; a sister, Johnnie Faye White of Columbus; a wonderful grandson, Bradley Joel Smith of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
