John was born on April 19,1958 in Columbia, South Carolina to his loving parents John J. and Barbary June Santoro (Ryals).
John lived and traveled all over the world including Germany as his family followed his dad’s military career. John attended Kendrick High School in Columbus, Ga. He joined the Army to service his country at the age of 17. He served his country from 1976 to 1980 in Co. B 1st Bn 508th Infantry 82nd Airborne Division and 11th Special Forces.
After his military service, John started another career at Proctor & Gamble later to become Weyerhaeuser in Oglethorpe, GA where he worked for 26 years. After moving back to Columbus, John used his vast maintenance experience at several local companies.
John was a “huge” music buff. He loved all kinds of music, but by far his favorite artist was Elvis Presley. John instilled his love of music in all of his children. He was a huge history buff as well and nobody could seem to beat him at Trivia.
John was preceded in death by his parents John J. Santoro and Barbary June Santoro and his son Nathan James Santoro. He is survived by his loving fiancé Dianna Collier who cared for him and supported him through his battle with cancer. His children: John Robert (J.R.) Santoro of Columbus, Ga, Christina Marie Santoro of Columbus, GA and Brandon Lee Schwoebel (Abby) of Columbus, GA and Matthew Lee Santoro of Phenix City, AL. Four Grandchildren: Shelbee Austyn Santoro, Avery Blayne Thomas, Noah Ryan Langley and Aiyla June Santoro. Siblings Dedra Foster (Bill) of KY, Joseph Santoro (Margie) of FL, and Stephen Santoro (Sandy) of FL. Numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
John became closer to the Lord before his death and his wish was that his family members would follow the Lord also. He wanted his family members to live their lives with integrity and work hard every day that was given to them. He loved his family and he loved his country that he served.
