John Thomas “Tommy” Whitley, 84, of Junction City, GA, passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2017. A Graveside Service is scheduled in Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road Columbus, on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 26, 2017 from 5:00-7:00pm at Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road Columbus.
Mr. Whitley, son of the late John Thomas Whitley Sr. and Lucie Streetman Whitley, was born April 17, 1933 in Columbus, Georgia. He served our country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After his service, Mr. Whitley worked and retired from the State of Georgia Engineering Department as a General Trades Craftsman. He was a member of the Rosehill Masonic Lodge #484 of Columbus. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be dearly missed.
Mr. Whitley was preceded in death by his wife, Magie B. Whitley; sons, Gary Robin Whitley, Daniel Richard Whitley; and grandson, Jacob Whitley.
He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Lynn Whitley (Steve Goodnoe), Cindy Jo Cato (John Muser); sons, Johnny Wayne Whitley (Kim Pearrow), Shannon Lee Whitley (Donna); eleven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
