

Johnny William Whitener, 67, of Columbus, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Columbus Hospice House. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday evening, from 4:00-6:00pm, August 22, 2017, with Pastor Seth Hon beginning with prayer.
Mr. Whitener was the son of the late Charlie Frances Whitener and Bertha Mae Smith Whitener. He was born September 19, 1949 in Atlanta, Georgia before moving to the Columbus area as a child.
Mr. Whitener was a General Contractor and Owner of Whitener Home Improvements for over 40 years. He spent a lot of time remodeling many homes in the historic district of Columbus. Mr. Whitener enjoyed hunting and golfing on occasion and loved to socialize with friends and family. He was always happy to take his wife Diana out dancing.
Other than his parents, Mr. Whitener was preceded in death by his brothers, Curtis Eugene Whitener, Charles Edward Whitener, and Billy Whitener.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Diana Stratigos Whitener; children, Johnny Whitener Jr. (Tara), Timmy Whitener (Alicia), Travis Whitener, Adam Whitener; sisters, Brenda Macon (Carl) of Senoia, GA, Debbie Ratledge of Box Springs, GA; brother, Tommy Whitener (Nancy) of Fayetteville, GA; and several grandchildren.
