Joe was born in Columbus, GA to the late Katherine Biles Bross and George Rufus Bross, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rebecca Miller Bross, brothers George Rufus Bross, Jr (Mary), and Walter Thomas Bross (Lyda), daughter Georgia Bross Hall (Glen) and son Joseph (Jay) Charles Bross, Jr. (Jeanie), 4 nephews and 13 loving cousins.
Joe was a student manager for Alabama coach Paul Bryant in the mid 1960s and earned his Bachelor's of Business (1967) and his Master's of Business Administration (1969). He continued his love for the University of Alabama by serving as the treasurer of Chattahoochee Valley Alabama Alumni Association. The Alumni Association honored Joe's work by naming the Starling-Bross scholarship for him.
Joe moved back to Columbus in 1973 and opened Bross Tire Sales. Joe served as President of the Columbus Jaycees and President of the Georgia Tire Dealers Association. In 1980, he won the JR Allen Young Man of the Year award. He was also on the board of the Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame. Joe was a loving husband, devoted father and a dear friend.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 11:00 am in the Porter Chapel of First Baptist Church with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA.
The family would like to express their profound gratitude to the First Responders, Emory University Medical Center and Columbus Hospice doctors and staff who provided such incredible care during Joe's battle with liver cancer.
