Joseph Ronald "Ron" Brown

Columbus, Georgia- Joseph Ronald "Ron" Brown, age 77, resident of Columbus, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at his residence.

Funeral services are scheduled at Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus on Friday, May 9, 2014, 3 p.m. with Reverend Scott Tucker officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday, May 9, 2014 from 2 -3 pm.

Mr. Brown, son of the late Joseph Riley Brown and Anna Belle Medders Brown, was born October 28, 1936 in Alma, Georgia. He served his country honorably as a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church. Mr. Brown was retired from the Social Security Administration. He enjoyed his family, playing golf, and was an avid softball fan.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by a sister, Maizie Brandt and a brother, Paul Brown. He is survived by his wife, Mary Pat Brown of Columbus; two daughters, Susan Padgett (Jim) of Columbus and Lauren Thompson (Tommy) of Raleigh, North Carolina; one son, Steve Brown of Columbus; one sister, Miriam Tucker of Tampa, Florida; four grandchildren, Berkeley Bolin, Chandler Padgett, Chloe Padgett, and Carson Padgett; other relatives and friends.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to his caregivers, Morris Magoni, Johnnie Mae Hite, Melody Hawthorne, and the staff of Columbus Hospice.
