Joseph James McDaniel, age 20, of Columbus, Georgia, went home to Jesus on October 28, 2017. He was born on May 19, 1997, in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of Joseph and Liliana (Cáceres) McDaniel. Joseph was a dedicated student at St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School where he graduated in May 2015, and was a member of the National Honor Society and the varsity football team. Joseph was in his junior year at Berry College in Rome, Georgia, majoring in business management. His goal was to run his own business. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout during his sophomore year in high school, upon completion of a project to benefit his school. Joseph was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, whose community was close to his heart.
Joseph was an exceptionally devoted and loving son and brother. He touched the lives of all who knew him with his warm smile and kindness. His quick laugh and slow drawl made everyone feel immediately at ease. Joseph made friends easily and was true to each and every one of them. We will always be proud of Joseph’s perseverance, strength, generosity, and courage. Joseph enjoyed the outdoors and was a gifted fisherman. Among our fondest memories are the times spent at Indian Pass, Florida, where Joseph made sure that everyone enjoyed the fishing and nighttime campfires. More than anything, Joseph loved spending time with family and friends.
Joseph is survived by his parents, Joe and Liliana McDaniel of Columbus, Georgia; his sister, Mary Catherine, of Columbus, Georgia; his paternal grandparents, Jim and Bette McDaniel, of Phenix City, Alabama; and his Godparents, Sandro and Mónica Zlatar, of Lima, Perú. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and nephews. Joseph is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, José and Luisa Cáceres of Lima, Perú, and his uncle Dante Cáceres, of Lima, Perú.
