

Larry Gene Colbert, age 75, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2017. Funeral services will be held on Friday May 12, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm until 1:55 pm at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, GA. Burial will take place on Monday May 15, 2017 at 1:30 in the Chattanooga National Cemetery, in Chattanooga, TN.
Larry, the son of Edward and Julia Jackson Colbert (Cannon) was born in Phenix City, AL. He graduated from Central High School and attended James College, where he earned a degree in Accounting. He joined the Army, serving as a specialist, medical corpsman, and a member of the Airborne Infantry. He was stationed here at Ft. Benning and overseas in Korea. After returning home Larry was employed with the railroad and then began his truck driving career with Columbus Foundry, Manfredi and Kinnett Dairies. He really enjoyed umpiring here in the area and was a member of the River City Officials Association. Larry was a born again believer of the Christian faith and looked forward to meeting his Heavenly Father.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother James Colbert; two sisters, Janice Strickland and Ann Sasser. Survivors include, Diane Hay, his loving companion of 32 years; a brother Rev. Lamar Colbert; his children, Patricia (Art) Blue, Kathy (Mike) Coulter, Larry George, John Colbert, Wendi Colbert (Rob) Martin, 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and also known as granddaddy by 7 others.
