

A military graveside service will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 11:00 AM EST in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. Family will visit with friends Thursday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia.
Leonard James Darden was born on September 25, 1939 in Fayetteville, North Carolina to the late Sudie Holder Darden and Henry C. Darden. He was married to Ute S. Darden for 54 years. Mr. Darden served his country faithfully for over 26 years in the U.S. Army retiring as 1SG. He served during the Vietnam Conflict receiving a Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Expert Qualification Badge (M-16), and numerous other decorations for distinguished service to his country. Mr. Darden was an avid hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and Little Brandi, his canine companion.
He leaves his loving wife of 54 years, Ute S. Darden, his sons: Stewart B. Darden and his wife Janie and Stanley C. Darden, his sister, Betty Brannen, his cousin Wayne Holder and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members to cherish his loving memory.
