Louie Gaines Broadwell

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907 with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, January 4, 2011 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. A private entombment will follow.

Mr. Broadwell was born March 4, 1930 in Lavonia, GA, son of the late Reverend E.R. Broadwell and Lillie Tucker Broadwell. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving from 1952 thru 1956. Mr. Broadwell served as the Deputy Clerk for Federal Court, Middle District of Georgia, and retired in 1993. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Jeri Broadwell of Columbus, GA; one son, Charles Broadwell and his wife, Susan of Tampa, FL; one daughter, Patti Reynolds-Poppel and her husband, Barry of Tampa, FL; one granddaughter, Kara Broadwell. The family would like to espress their gratitude to the staff at Columbus Hospice House for their kind and compassionate care. Special gratitude goes to Celeste Weaver for her care at home over the past two years.
