

Luster “Lee” Stanfill, 81, of Fortson, GA passed away at 4:48 PM Thursday, March 15th at The Medical Center. Funeral service and burial with full military honors will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, March 19, 2012 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Bob Hawkins officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 18, 2012 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the funeral home. SSG (Ret) Stanfill was born October 4, 1930 in Manila, AR, son of the late Louis E. Stanfill and Nonie Rushing Stanfill. His distinguished military career in the U. S. Army spanned more than 20 years where he served in two tours in Korean Conflict and one tour in the Vietnam Conflict. SSG (Ret) Stanfill received the bronze star, the Purple Heart and many other commendations during his military career. After retirement from the U. S. Army, he began a new and successful career with the civil service, serving Ft. Benning for 18 years, before retiring. SSG (Ret) Stanfill was a member of Cascade Hills Church, VFW 665 Columbus, GA, DAV, Masonic Lodge, and was a long time member of the Shriners. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Andrea; 5 brothers, including his twin brother; and three sisters. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Stanfill of Fortson, GA; one sister, Dorothy Mason of Paragould, AR; his son, Eddy (Sandra) Stanfill, Canton, GA, Audie (Dorothy) Stanfill and Eugene Stanfill, both of Smiths Station, AL; step-son Casey Barker (Tari), Plainfield, IL; step-daughter Robin Wallace (Buddy), Hamilton, GA. Grandsons; Tony, Nicolas, Adrian, Audie Jr., Juan Tobias, Jebadiah Stanfill; Gage and Grant Barker. Grandaughters, Hollie Stanfill and Laken Wallace; and seven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
